As Prince Harry reportedly prepares for an extended visit to the UK, one specific fear is said to be holding wife Meghan Markle back from joining him

As Prince Harry prepares to reconnect with his family on an upcoming trip to the UK, it appears his wife Meghan Markle, is unlikely to be joining him, after an insider revealed that the Duchess of Sussex “fears being heckled in public” upon her return.

Earlier this week it was reported that Harry, 39, is planning to come to the UK later this Summer for an extended period of time in a bid to “mend his broken relationship with his family,” which has been increasingly fraught in recent months.

The proud father-of-two, who officially stepped away from life as a working royal back in 2020 to move to the US with his young family, is believed to have been blindsided by the cancer diagnoses of both his father King Charles and sister-in-law Princess Kate, which was revealed to the public at the start of the year.

Yet despite Harry’s hopes of a happy reunion with his relatives, it seems increasingly unlikely that wife Meghan will be joining him for the extended trip, as the former actress has “too much on her plate” juggling a number of projects, including the recent launch of her lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard.

While her business needs do place a huge demand on her time, one magazine has now claimed that this isn’t the only reason she is reluctant to make the trip across the Atlantic, as they suggest that she is “fearful of being heckled in public”, just like the incident at the Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

If true, this could mean that the Prince will be forced to spend an extended time apart from his wife as makes a valiant attempt to repair his fractured family ties to the rest of the royal family.

A source told Closer that the King's youngest son is “convinced” that 'he'll have a better chance of reconnecting with his family’ if he remains in the UK for an extended period of time, even if this does mean spending time apart from the woman he loves.

The insider said: “Harry is very anxious to go home and see his dad, catch up with his friends for his birthday in September and also pay a visit to his aunt, Princess Anne. But that situation hasn't changed for Meghan.

“She's respectful that Harry has to go back to his home for practical and emotional reasons, but that doesn't mean she's going to go with him.”

One key factor in whether the trip goes ahead, is whether the Prince is granted police protection (Image: Getty)

One crucial factor in determining if the Prince’s visit goes ahead, will likely stem from whether or not his appeal to the Home Office and the Royal and VIP Executive Committee is successful.

The Prince lodged an appeal earlier this year, against the RAVEC’s decision to downgrade his security status when he stepped away from being a working royal four years ago.

This meant that he was stripped of the tax-payer police protection that would have normally been afforded to him and his family members if they had continued to work for “the firm.”

A previous legal challenge had been dismissed by the court, but the Prince was granted permission to appeal it last month.
