It appears as though Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's bombshell move to the U.S. has cost them more than just their senior royal status, as an expert has revealed that their inner circle of friends is deteriorating.

The pair stepped down as working royals in 2020 and moved to Montecito, California, where they have mingled with many Hollywood stars in the process but on a less frequent basis.

Discussing the royal couple’s A-lister friendships, a source told Closer: "Their A-list friends that are supportive are few and far between. Any chance they had of mending fences with the Beckhams has been squashed by the royals, Tom Cruise has clearly chosen to side with the royals, George and Amal Clooney have all but dumped them too, and even Elton John has been too busy to give them a whole lot of attention."

It comes amid rumours the Duke and Duchess’s inner circle appears to be dwindling, publicly falling out with a number of A-listers, including the Beckhams - despite the British celebrity couple attending their wedding in 2018.

David Beckham was left "absolutely furious" after he and wife Victoria were allegedly accused by the Sussexes of leaking stories, with reports suggesting that their relationship was now "over".

The feud continued when Meghan Markle was once given more than £6,000 worth of designer clothes from Victoria Beckham but it had little effect in boosting the sales of her brand, claimed royal author Tom Bower in his book 'House of Beckham'.

The author also claimed Meghan was "irritated" that Victoria had more wealth than her and that the two had "little in common" when they first met.

The source also revealed Taylor Swift's recent selfie with Prince William, Prince George and Princess Charlotte at her concert in London for the Eras Tour would have likely rattled the Duchess of Sussex.

They said: "According to insiders, the Sussexes believe this is another attempt from William of showing Harry and Meghan they are firmly outsiders when it comes to the Royal family, despite Harry's attempts to get back in touch with The Firm."

The Daily Mail's Richard Eden also highlighted the disparities between William and Kate's, and Harry and Meghan's approaches to celebrity networking with the circulating social media image.

He explained: "In a way, you could say [Taylor is] paying court to Prince William - whereas with Harry and Meghan, it's the other way round."

Meghan Markle is set to release a new Netflix series, which has just wrapped up filming. Although its title and release date are yet to be announced, the show is said to "celebrate the joys of cooking, gardening, entertaining, and friendship".

But Meghan was branded a "hypocrite" by a royal commentator who heavily criticised her over her and described her as someone who "dumps her besties faster than she traduces the Royal Family".

The Mail's columnist Amanda Platell wrote: "Just when we thought it had all gone quiet on the Montecito front, up pops Meghan with her exciting new venture. It's a Netflix series celebrating 'the joys of cooking and gardening, entertaining and... ' — wait for it — 'friendship'.

"This, from a woman who has dumped most of her pre-Harry friends as well as her entire family (apart from mum Doria) while also luring Harry away from his old friends. A woman who has such a reputation for defriending people, there's a verb for it in the Urban Dictionary — being 'Markled'."
