Once hailed as burgeoning pals with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, David and Victoria Beckham's relationship with the Royal couple has seemingly hit rocky waters.

Reports suggested that Meghan initiated a frosty distance between the two power couples.

David Beckham’s ties to Prince William and King Charles are believed to have ruffled feathers within the Sussex household.

The connection dates back to David's days as England's football captain, where he first encountered Prince Harry.

As Harry and Meghan's romance blossomed, the Beckhams reportedly extended a warm welcome to Meghan, aiding her transition to London life.

Victoria was said to have shared her coveted contacts for top-notch hairdressers and stylists in the city with Meghan, but when these details hit the headlines, tensions flared.

Meghan suspected former Spice Girl of leaking stories to the press, leading to an uncomfortable phone call between their spouses.

A source revealed to The Sun: “Harry was very polite, but obviously it was a pretty awkward exchange and David was mortified.

“Inexplicably, [Meghan] feared Victoria was behind it - I mean, the idea that Victoria Beckham would be personally ringing journalists to give them a scoop is ridiculous - and spoke to Harry about it”.

The insider continued: “Harry is very protective of Meghan, and decided to deal with the matter head-on, by directly contacting his good pal, David. He quickly put Harry right, and the two men agreed to move on - but it certainly made things awkward for a while”.

David and Victoria were part of the star-studded guest list at Harry and Meghan's opulent 2018 nuptials at St George's Chapel alongside other celebrities, friends, and Royal relatives.

However, whispers suggest that they were only favoured with invites to the ceremony rather than the reception, an omission that reputedly left the Beckhams feeling slighted.

Later that year, the Sussexes embarked on a Royal tour across Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific - a jaunt timed with the Sydney-hosted 2018 Invictus Games, to which Harry invited David Beckham as an ambassador.

The football legend honoured this role, jetting to Australia in solidarity with the cause but tensions were said to have grown after Harry reportedly gave David the cold shoulder in Sydney.

Despite this, David publicly upheld a supportive stance on Harry's decision to step back from senior Royal duties in 2020, and said he was “proud” of the Prince.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the athlete described him as an “amazing” individual, adding: “We love him,” on behalf of his wife.

“But I'm proud to see him growing up as an individual and being that person that every father wants to be.”

However, it’s claimed the controversial Megxit further distanced the former pals as David maintained his close friendship with King Charles and Prince William.

After the footballer was named a King’s Foundation Ambassador, the two recently reunited at the first-ever King's Foundation awards at Buckingham Palace, where they exchanged thoughts on England's prospects for Euro 2024
