Queen Sofia has been admitted to a hospital in Madrid.
Spain's Queen Sofia has been rushed to hospital, prompting all royal engagements to be cancelled.
The royal was rushed to a hospital in Madrid after developing a urinary tract infection.
In a statement, the Spanish Royal Household said that Queen Sofia was recovering from the illness, but will remain overnight for observation.
Queen Sofia's husband, King Juan Carlos, is also receiving treatment in Madrid at the Ruber International Clinic.
She had been due to visit a food bank in Huesca on April 12 but was forced to cancel the engagement to focus on her recovery.

Sofia is mother to the current reigning monarch King Felipe VI, one of three children she had with former monarch Juan Carlos along with Infanta Elena and Infanta Cristina.
As news of his mother's health was revealed, King Felipe reportedly continued to carry out royal engagements including holding a military audience in Madrid at the Royal Palace.
Earlier today, Felipe was pictured arriving at the Ruber International Clinic to visit his mother and provide support as she continues her treatment.
Despite no longer being monarch, Sofia was still scheduled to be carrying out royal duties. She became Queen in 1975 after marrying Juan Carlos a few years earlier.

Originally Princess Sophia of Greece and Denmark, she reportedly met Juan Carlos in the 1950s before they fell in love in the 1960s and married in 1962.
King Felipe is the current monarch in Spain, alongside his wife Queen Letizia.
