'New rift' opens up between Meghan Markle and William as spotlight moves off Harry
A NEW royal rift appears to have opened up between Meghan Markle and her brother-in-law Prince William, insiders have claimed.
Prince Harry broke from 'royal tradition' with Meghan says expert
Prince William is understood to have animosity towards his sister-in-law Meghan Markle, due to the claims made in her tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey. One area is understood to have particularly irked the second in line to the throne, as his wife Kate was shown in a negative light.
As a result, senior insiders have alleged that the "biggest strains now exist between William and Meghan".
The rift is understood to have opened up after Meghan revived a two-year argument she had with Kate, Duchess of Cambridge.
Meghan brought up the matter when she sat down with Oprah as she sought to clarify how the dispute was previously reported.
In 2018, it was claimed Meghan had made Kate cry during a dispute about bridesmaid's dresses ahead of her wedding to Prince Harry that May.
But during the interview, Meghan told Oprah "the reversed happened".
She said: "I don’t say that to be disparaging to anyone because it was a really hard week of the wedding and she was upset about something but she owned it and she apologised and she bought me flowers, and a note apologising.
"She did what I would do if I knew that I hurt someone."
The Duchess said she wanted to "protect" her sister-in-law Kate from the truth coming out, but was "shocked" when months after the wedding it was reported that she had upset Kate.

She said she was saddened the Palace never set the record straight at the time.
But bringing up the dispute has reportedly angered Prince William, with royal sources informing commentator Dan Wootton that the Duke will "struggle to ever forgive Meghan".
The news of a rift opening up between Meghan and William is set to take the spotlight off William's relationship with his brother, Harry.
The pair's disagreement has been well documented in recent years, with Harry frequently bringing it up in press interviews.

He has twice told journalists he and William are "on different paths".
In 2019, the Duke openly admitted he was not on the best terms with his brother in an interview with ITV during his South Africa tour.
He said: “Part of this role and part of this job and this family being under the pressure that it’s under … stuff happens.
"But, look, we’re brothers, we’ll always be brothers.
"We’re certainly on different paths at the moment.
"But I’ll always be there for him and, as I know, he’ll always be there for me.
"We don’t see each other as much as we used to because we’re so busy, but I love him dearly.”
Harry also discussed the rift in his recent sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey, where he reiterated the pair were on "different paths".
