The Duchess of Sussex will take over the Queen’s role as patron of the National Theatre. The Queen has made the decision Meghan should be given the role as a symbol of her growing confidence in the mother-to-be, according to Palace sources. The appointment is set to be announced over the next few days.
Rufus Norris, the director of the National Theatre met with Meghan last month to discuss her upcoming plans for the role.
Having starred in hit US legal drama Suits for seven years as Rachel Zane, Palace insiders believe Meghan’s career and her education in theatre make her a “natural fit” for the role.
Her new position will include becoming involved with The American Associates of the National Theatre.
The New York-based, non-profit organisation which contributes more than £3million a year to support the National Theatre.

Another part of Meghan’s role will include liaising with American benefactors to strengthen connections between them and the National Theatre.
Mr Norris who became the director in 2015 is said to be aware of promoting openness to different cultures.
Until now he has never openly admitted the theatre’s connection to the Royal Family as using the “Royal” prefix to describe the institution for fear of being considered elitist.
He said: “This country is still very class divided and anything that adds to that perception, that this place is not open to everybody, could be a downfall.”
Andrea Levy’s award-winning novel Small Island which describes the evolution of four characters moving from Jamaica to London during World War 2 is set to be directed as a stage adaptation by Mr Norris this year.
Meghan’s own rise to fame reflects the play’s themes of racism, the interracial relationship between a man and a woman and a move to a new country.
Meghan, who has experienced racism in the past, is said to have bonded with Mr Norris.
Since her move to the UK, the Duchess has taken a great interest in the arts having attended a benefit performance of the hit musical Hamilton to support Harry’s charity Sentebale.
