Motorists are only just realising how a secret function on every car door can help cool their vehicles in seconds over the summer.

A car mechanic has revealed that simply swinging a car door several times with the passenger window open could help fan hot air out of the cabin.

The expert reported the simple trick makes the car a lot cooler meaning motorists can get on with their journeys without sweating.

Crucially the TikTok tip can be done before setting off meaning road users do not have to turn open their windows while driving.

Leaving windows open can affect drag and burn more fuel while switching on air conditioning could also burn through petrol and diesel.

Speaking on TikTok, @nathansbmwworkshop said: “Alright guys I'm going to show you how to cool off a car when it's extremely hot outside. This is the quickest and best way.

“Put your key in, roll your passenger window down, leave your driver's window up and you fan it. This will actually shove all the air out and instantly cool your car off in the hot summertime.”

The clip has been liked by TikTok viewers over 1,400 times with hundreds also bookmarking the advice.

Several TikTok users commented how they had taken advantage of the simple piece of advice in the past.

@roberthicks15 added: “I do same thing but fully close the door. Do it maybe five times. It does make it cooler.”

@karenmarie373 remarked: “We did that before AC cars.”

There are reports the UK could be set for a heatwave next week with a North African plume set to hit Britain two days running.

Analysis from WXCharts shows temperatures could rise to a staggering 25C on June 24 and June 25.

Research has found internal temperatures of cars can reach a whopping 50C even on cooler summer days.

The Highway Code makes clear that motorists must ensure their vehicle is kept cool at all times while travelling.

Rule 237 reads: “Keep your vehicle well-ventilated to avoid drowsiness.”
