Shania Twain left 'struggling' at Glastonbury as she's plagued by 'horrific' sound issue

Shania Twain is the latest major star to have been dogged by persistent sound problems, after Cyndi Lauper, Dua Lipa and Coldplay all experienced the same issue.

Glastonbury: Shania Twain takes to the stage

Shania Twain's Glastonbury show fell flat today, despite belting out classic country pop tunes like the 1997 hit 'That Don't Impress Me Much'. The Canadian singer - who doesn't look a day older today than she did when she appeared in that iconic music video 27 years earlier, clad in a long leopard print coat, seemed to have been plagued by techinical problems.

Sympathetic listeners took to Twitter to share their frustration that her major moment at one of Britain's top music festivals was marred - and blamed the sound crew. They begged for someone to "rescue" the songstress, saying: "What is going on with the sound for Shania Twain?! She's really struggling. This is absolutely dreadful."

Another listener took to Twitter to point out the "utterly horrific sound mix". A third added: "The sound at Glastonbury has been terrible on BBC, Cyndi [Lauper] yesterday and now Shania?"

In the lead-up to her performance in the Legends slot, fans had been dressing up in colourful carnival costumes and even donning cowboy hats as they sang along to her lyrics. They'd been looking forward to celebrating female artists at the festival after there was a backlash the previous year about a lack of women headliners.

The singer herself didn't disappoint in the glamour stakes either, donning a rhinestone-studded black cowboy hat and boots, satin gloves and a pink frilly outfit. Even her microphone was encrusted with crystallised sparkles as she went for the ultimate glammed-up festival look.

However, on Twitter, fans noticed the technical difficulties and thought their icon had too. One exclaimed: "Looks like Shania knows something is wrong with the sound."

Another lamented: "I love her - I don't want to be underwhelmed." However, she was passionately defended by someone else, who argued: "Anyone saying bad things about Shania needs to wind their neck in. The queen performed. After seeing her last year in London she can still give it her all #Glastonbury."

The comments come just hours after fans pointed out that 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' star Cyndi Lauper and Coldplay crooner Chris Martin also appeared to have been battling issues.

Meanwhile, Albanian pop icon Dua Lipa was forced to deny claims that she'd mimed during her set as accusations stacked up.

Coldplay made history by becoming the first ever group to headline the festival five times, but were slammed for exactly the same reason as Dua, with critics pointing to "too many backing tracks" as well as miming.

Some also argued last night that Glastonbury had become too political, after allegedly anti-semitic merchandise was said to have been made available on site, and hordes of Palestinian flags could be seen in the crowd.

On Twitter, there were calls for the festival to lose its license after open support for Hamas was expressed by members of the crowd, despite the group having launched the most recent conflict by murdering hundreds of Israelis at a music festival on October 7.
