Rylan Clark confesses real reason behind famous '23 minute' sob on X Factor
Rylan Clark has opened up about his unforgettable reaction to finding out he went through to the live shows, during his 2012 X-Factor stint.
Although Rylan Clark has solidified his career as a popular TV presenter, he became a household name after starring on X Factor in 2012.
The 35-year-old first graced the screens with musical aspirations as he took to the live audition with an upbeat rendition of Des’Ree’s Kissing You.
While he quickly became a firm favourite among viewers, no one was as surprised as Rylan when he progressed to the live shows after succeeding at judges' houses.
The then 23-year-old’s reaction is hailed as one of the most memorable moments of the reality show’s entire 15 seasons, as he dramatically wept into Nicole Scherzinger’s lap.
In a TikTok clip, Rylan reflected on the unforgettable moment during a recent interview on Jamie Laing’s Great Company podcast.
Although he was ecstatic to be progressing in the series, Rylan revealed there was more going on behind the scenes that prompted his emotional response.
After performing the TV star was certain he would be going home and revealed: “We thought ‘f***k it let’s let our hair down.”
Rylan continued: “Caroline [Flack] came and joined in and we just had the best night ever.
At six in the morning another producer has woke up heard that we’re still going, has come to my villa and went ‘you need to f**king go to bed, you’ve got to be up for the results in an hour.’”

“So I go u to be bed, have like 30 minutes sleep, get all ready, dressed like Batman,” after opening the doors he claimed to feel like” someone had stuffed wool in my mouth.”
Rylan claimed that Caroline had given him the heads-up that he would be eliminated but was met with the shock of his life.
He reflected: “Nicole’s like ‘hey baby,’ when she tells me ‘its such a big risk that I have to take’ everyone thought my reaction was fake.
“I cried pure vodka into her lap … I kept looking at all the cameramen like ‘you’re lying’ I couldn’t speak, I couldn’t breathe.
“This went on for 23 minutes, the timed it. The medic had to be called in,” Rylan added.
