Monty Don’s social media followers said the same thing as he shared an emotional post online.

The presenter, 68, has been handing out gardening tips for more than 20 years, having taken over from Alan Titchmarsh as the host of Gardeners’ World in 2003.

While he is recognised for his various TV appearances, the BBC star is also known for his love of dogs. Monty regularly updates fans on his two pet pooches; Ned and Patti.

He also had a Labrador called Nell, who sadly died last year. Taking to Instagram on Monday (July 1), Monty took a trip down memory lane as he shared an image of himself sitting with Nell and Patti.

He wrote: "Found this picture taken 4 years ago of Nell and Patti ( and me)." Fans flocked to the comments to share their thoughts on the photo, with one writing: "Aww beautiful Nell. What a lovely photo."

Another penned: "Beautiful memories with best friends." A third added: "Lovely picture Monty." Someone else agreed: "So special. Beautiful dogs."

"What a fabulous photo... magic memories," echoed a fourth. Meanwhile another said: "Aawww made me cry. Sending you a hug Monty for all your fur babies." Monty was left devastated when Nell died from cancer in October 2023 as he took to Instagram to pay tribute to his beloved dog.

The gardener began: "I was going to tell you about my new book which is published next week but that can wait because my lovely dear Nell died last night. She was diagnosed with cancer in June and every day this summer has been a gift but it is over now.

"We buried her in the garden next to Nigel wrapped in one of my jackets with flowers, balls and her favourite biscuits. Her end was peaceful and dignified and ended obvious suffering but it never gets any easier to bear. So life goes on, but for the moment we are very, very sad."

Six months after Nell's death, the famed horticulturalist revealed his way of commemorating his pooch in his garden. In April, Monty posted a photo of brown porcelain pots containing purple and pink tulips.

Alongside the photo, he added the caption: "The Nell pot (trickier to read, but its there)." The word 'Nell' was inscripted at the bottom of the biggest plant pot above an outlined image of a Labrador.

The tribute celebrates Nell in a similar fashion to his Golden Retriever Nigel, who also had a personal plant pot assigned to him following his death in 2020.
