Katie Boulter is already planning her escape from Wimbledon before playing her first match.

The British No. 1 is seeded at her home Grand Slam for the first time and will face former semi-finalist Tatjana Maria on Tuesday.

While Boulter is keen to carry her great grass-court form into Wimbledon, she will be “getting away” with long-time boyfriend Alex De Minaur as soon as the tournament is over.

Boulter and De Minaur have been pushing each other on in recent months. They won titles on the same weekend back in February, with the Brit lifting her biggest trophy yet at the WTA 500 in San Jose after De Minaur defended his crown in Acapulco.

Then, last month, they lifted trophies on the same day as Boulter defended her Nottingham title and De Minaur triumphed in 's-Hertogenbosch. While their healthy competition has proven successful, the WTA world No. 29 admitted they needed to escape the sport as soon as her home Grand Slam was over.

“I watch way too much tennis. My whole life is tennis. Obviously my boyfriend’s in tennis, so I don’t necessarily get that much chance to be outside of it,” Boulter said in the days before Wimbledon.

“I do love the sport and I love keeping track of how people are doing. There are times when I do say to myself and Alex that we need to get away from it and just focus a little bit.” And they are planning to do just that, though they won’t have much time before the Olympics begin on July 27.

The 27-year-old continued: “I think after WImbledon we’re gonna have a couple of days where we’re just gonna switch off from the whole entire world, phone’s gonna be off, no one’s gonna be calling me and I will not be looking at any result going on that week.

Boulter also confessed that there was a lot of competition between herself and the ATP No. 9. “I would say we’re proper competitive. I think it’s hard not to be,” she explained.

“We’re both in elite sports and we both also want the best for each other but when it comes to competing against each other, I think we're pretty up there with the most competitive for sure.

“But he supports me through everything and I know how lucky I am to have him so if there are any cons, the pros always outweigh them. I do enjoy talking to him about tennis, getting his insight and I find it fun being a part of it.”

Boulter and De Minaur will both play their opening rounds on Tuesday at SW19, and they will be hoping that their competitive spirits will carry them both deep into the tournament throughout the fortnight.
