Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu could bank £130,000 should they win the mixed doubles tournament at Wimbledon this month. The British Grand Slam winners will combine for a formidable team at the All England Club this month in what is likely to be Murray's final appearance at SW19.

The 37-year-old is also competing in the men's doubles alongside his brother Jamie, with the pair taking on Rinky Hijikata and John Peers on Thursday (July 4) while his other first-round clash in the mixed doubles clash commences on Friday (July 5) against Marcelo Arevalo and Zhang Shuai.

Murray enjoyed a previous outing in the mixed doubles at Wimbledon, having competed with Serena Williams in 2019 while he clinched an Olympic silver with the now-retired Laura Robson at the 2012 London Olympics. The prize money on offer for the mixed doubles winners at Wimbledon stands at £130,000, a £2,000 increase from last year's prize which was won by Lyudmyla Kichenok and Mate Pavic.

While two-time Wimbledon champion Murray is hoping to make what is likely to be his last-ever appearance at the Grand Slam a long run, he was unable to recover fully to take part in the men's singles where he was drawn to take on Tomas Machac in the first round.

Having undergone spinal cyst surgery earlier this month, Murray was hard at work in his attempt to compete in the singles but admitted he wasn't at the point where he was able to give 100%. "It wasn’t a clearcut decision on the singles," he said.

"I obviously thought long and hard about it. I practised a few sets of singles and did well in those practices. I certainly wasn’t moving as I would like. But it was still able to be really competitive and it was just whether or not I was comfortable going out there and maybe not feeling like I was able to give my 100 per cent.

"Doubles is a slightly different game in terms of the physicality of it and yeah I am looking forward to that." Raducanu made a winning return to Wimbledon on Monday (July 1), defeating Renata Zarazua and the 2021 US Open champion commended Murray's determination throughout his illustrious career.

"I would say, like, the biggest standout thing for me was when he lost in the final here of Wimbledon, then came back a month later and won the Olympics," the 21-year-old said. "I think that to get through six really difficult rounds, then lose in the final, then to play a month later and be in the final again, your mind, without you realizing, just runs like deja vu scenarios. I made it to the final."

Raducanu spoke on the advice that Murray has imparted to her, remarking: "I think the biggest advice is just how he's always taken care of his operations, how he manages his people. I haven't really spoken to him so much. I think for me it's just like watching him operate day to day, watching him be absolutely on it with everything. Even in practice now, he's so on it to the minute.

"I think me, when I was a bit younger maybe, showing up 15 minutes before practice to do a few arm curls, swing my hand around and warm up, he's there for an hour and a half doing treatment. He just sets really good examples."
