Novak Djokovic has revealed that he is ‘pain-free’ ahead of Wimbledon next week, having previously been in a race against time to compete at SW19.

The Serb has been recovering from recent knee surgery after he suffered a meniscus tear at the French Open earlier this month.

Djokovic will be one of the favourites to land the spoils at Wimbledon if he hits the ground running at the tournament, along with the likes of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. It remains to be seen whether Andy Murray will be involved in men’s singles after reaggravating a back injury at Queen’s Club.

Andy Murray offers update on playing Wimbledon

Andy Murray has confirmed he is ready to take a risk to play at Wimbledon this year - which could be his final ever appearance at the All England Club.

He revealed: “Obviously I haven’t done much for the last week. Just trying to do what I can, trying to keep progressing each day.

“Whether there’s enough time or not, I don’t know, but I’m trying. What will it take to play on Tuesday?

“I need to be able to move properly, which I can’t yet, so let’s see in 48 hours or so. I don’t know - tough to know how it’s going to progress, really.

“There’s risks associated with what I’m trying to do and I’m willing to take that to try and play. So yeah, we’ll see what happens.”

Novak Djokovic injury latest

Novak Djokovic believes he is in a state to compete for the Wimbledon title just three-and-a-half weeks after having knee surgery and plans to play at the All England Club.

And the world No. 2 knows that he could risk the Olympics by rushing back to play on the grass courts in SW19 before switching back to clay for the Games.

After spending the last week practising at the All England Club, the seven-time champion said it was “normal” to ask why he decided to race back for Wimbledon.

“37 years old, you want to maybe have less risk and prepare yourself for Olympic Games,” he said.

“Just the thought of me missing Wimbledon was just not correct. I didn't want to deal with that.”

Awkward SW19 reunion coming...

Ajla Tomljanovic and Jelena Ostapenko are set to come face to face again at Wimbledon, three years after their on-court bust-up.

The pair came to blows during their fourth-round clash in 2021 when Ostapenko was accused of faking an injury as she was being beaten by her Australian opponent.

There is water under the bridge between the two female stars now, though their intense feud could be reignited next week back in familiar surroundings.

A rematch is scheduled on the opening day of Wimbledon following Friday’s draw, and Ostapenko may be keen to prove that she truly was injured three years ago by righting the wrongs of that performance.

In 2021, Tomljanovic stormed into a 4-0 lead over the Latvian, winning six games on the trot to all but book her spot in the next round. However, the match turned sour when Ostapenko sat down in her chair ahead of her serve and insisted that she could not continue due to an injury.

Ex-champ fears guest being turned away

Maria Sharapova has joked her fiancée won’t be allowed into Wimbledon due to a quirky fashion choice. As a former women’s champion at SW19, Sharapova is entitled to VIP access to the All England Club, where a strict dress code is in place for members.

The US-based Russian, who won Wimbledon in 2004, is preparing to attend this year’s tournament, which begins on Monday. She is set to have her partner, British businessman Alexander Gilkes, in tow, provided he is allowed access to the club.

Sharapova has raised light-hearted doubts about her beau’s suitability as she shared a video on social media of him wearing what appeared to be house slippers. Gilkes was trying on a new outfit ahead of Wimbledon.

“Um, is this gonna be allowed in the club?" asked Sharapova on Instagram, where she has 5million followers.

Gilkes reacted by calling his shoes his “modern” take on “classic casual” footwear. Still unconvinced, Sharapova quipped: “They might ask you to go get a new pair of shoes. Can't wait for a London's membership club take on "Classic Casual"."

Star screams as £100K pay-day looms

French tennis star Maxime Janvier left fans in no doubt how he’d be spending his prize money after screaming on court and reacting joyously to qualifying for Wimbledon.

After winning through to the third round of the preliminary stages, the 27-year-old took on French compatriot Giovanni Perricard and beat him 7-6 5-7 7-6 7-6.

That followed earlier wins over Chinese Tapei player Yu Hsiou Hsu and American Emilio Nava, seeing both players off in straight sets.

It is the first time that Janvier, ranked No.225 in the world, had even competed in Wimbledon qualifying, let alone made the main draw at SW19.

Making it through to face Perricard was worth £40,000 alone, but Janvier will now more than double his winnings with £60,000 coming his way even if he loses in the first round. He’ll take on world No.42 Zhang Zhizhen on Monday, and will guarantee himself a further £33,000 at least if he can pull off a shock. Regardless, he’ll leave the UK having secured a £100,000 payday, undoubtedly the biggest of his career.

Djokovic now 'pain free'

The subject of Novak Djokovic's health status has been one of great mystery over recent weeks.

The Serbian ace boosted the hopes of all tennis fans earlier in the month by releasing a video of his return to training, in which he looked sharper and more fine-tuned than ever before.

Yet days later Djokovic would pour confusion over everything, by insisting he had not yet decided whether he would feature at Wimbledon.

Alas, the surgery appears to have gone perfectly and now the tennis icon is singing a much sweeter tune.

Djokovic has confirmed that he is now "pain free" ahead of SW19.

After he played an exhibition match with Danill Medvedev, Djokovic admitted: "I can tell you I enjoyed myself really, really much. I can tell you that pain-free tennis is the best tennis. I was pain free and I’m really glad. It was a great test obviously against one of the best players in the world.

"I’ve played a couple of practice sets but I really wanted to test myself. The test was very successful so I’m obviously really glad. It’s been an intense three weeks after surgery, spending a lot of hours rehabbing.”

Raducanu was in 'horrible place'

Emma Raducanu is now at a point where she admits she is simply 'grateful' to be able to play tennis, given the struggles she has already had to endure in the sport.

The British ace, who is preparing to begin a home slam at Wimbledon on Monday, recently opened up on some of her lowest moments.

“I was horrible. Like, it was horrible. I think I’m just so grateful to be on the other side of it,” she said. “I think going there was really rubbing salt into the wound, but I guess it was part of my obligations to do it, and I’m just very happy to be actually playing.”

Blast from the past

A certain ex-Wimbledon finalist now looks completely unrecognisable these days.

Cedric Pioline cuts a completely different figure, 27 years after his showdown with Pete Sampras on the iconic Centre Court.

The 54-year-old, once known for his floppy hair, has since opted for a bald look in his middle age.

Pioline was ranked 44th globally when he defied the odds to reach the 1997 final. The Frenchman ousted 1991 champion Michael Stich from the semis over five sets before falling to Sampras 64, 62, 64.

"I found myself thinking, 'wow this is too easy'. I don't mean to be disrespectful toward Cedric. It was just that the match was on my racquet, far sooner and with far less difficulty than I expected," Sampras penned in his biography.
