Wimbledon star screams on court after securing £100k payday and new house
Wimbledon spectators were treated to an ecstatic reaction during qualifying.
French tennis star Maxime Janvier left fans in no doubt how he’d be spending his prize money after reacting joyously to qualifying for Wimbledon. After winning through to the third round of the preliminary stages, the 27-year-old took on French compatriot Giovanni Perricard and beat him 7-6 5-7 7-6 7-6.
That followed earlier wins over Chinese Tapei player Yu Hsiou Hsu and American Emilio Nava, seeing both players off in straight sets.
It is the first time that Janvier, ranked No.225 in the world, had even competed in Wimbledon qualifying, let alone made the main draw at SW19.
Making it through to face Perricard was worth £40,000 alone, but Janvier will now more than double his winnings with £60,000 coming his way even if he loses in the first round. He’ll take on world No.42 Zhang Zhizhen on Monday, and will guarantee himself a further £33,000 at least if he can pull off a shock.
Regardless, he’ll leave the UK having secured a £100,000 payday, undoubtedly the biggest of his career. And it appears he’ll now be upgrading his home, screaming “La maison, la maison” after converting match point.
That translates to “The house, the house,” suggesting he will soon be visiting an estate agent. It follows him screaming “money” on court after his previous victory over Nava.

It’s the first time Manvier has ever qualified for a Grand Slam outright. He competed in the French Open for three consecutive years from 2018-20, but received a wildcard on each occasion.
He’s made the second round of Australian Open qualifying on four occasions, and in 2021, came within one win of a place at the US Open. And his delight at finally getting over the line was shared by tennis fans.
“That money makes their struggles all worth it,” said @whatsthecraic1. “People can laugh and say it's inappropriate but reality is it's a lifeline.”

@alfonso_2626 added “I Would have done the same. But twice his enthusiasm.” Tennis TV pundit Bastien Fachan meanwhile, reposted footage of the moment and commented: :I mean at his ranking that's a lot of money.”
Janvier has won nine titles on the ATP Challenger and Futures tour. And he now has a career-high ranking in sight, having previously reached 170 in the world back in September 2019.
