Mason Greenwood could be set for a high-profile Man Utd exit without adding to INEOS' transfer pot this summer.

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly weighing up a summer swoop for Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood after his successful loan spell at Getafe. And club chief Sebastian Kehl has refused to rule out the possibility of a move ahead of Saturday's Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Greenwood has returned to United after his stint in Spain, where he registered 10 goals and six assists in 36 appearances.

He is expected to leave Old Trafford permanently in the coming months, with just one year left to run on his current contract.

However, reports in Germany state that Dortmund are eyeing a loan deal, which wouldn't boost United's transfer kitty this summer.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are said to be plotting a mass clear-out to raise funds to strengthen multiple areas of the squad.

ESPN add that United will trigger a 12-month extension in Greenwood's contract if he leaves on loan again, but they would prefer a permanent exit.

Any movement isn't expected before Dortmund face Real at Wembley Stadium this weekend in search of a second European Cup.

United loanee Jadon Sancho has helped BVB spring a surprise by reaching the final, dumping out Kylian Mbappe and Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals.

Kehl, Dortmund's sporting director, has remained coy on the possibility of Greenwood becoming the latest Red Devils play to swap red and white for black and yellow this summer.

During a Champions League final media day on Tuesday, he said: "I don't want to talk about any rumours now at the moment because it makes no sense. Let's play that final on Saturday.

"Of course, we do have our plans for the next season, and of course, we discuss many scenarios, but nothing for today. Let's focus, let's anticipate that match on Saturday, and then we'll see how we move on."

In response to being asked whether Greenwood is a player Dortmund admired, Kehl said, "I don't want to talk about that now."

Dortmund are unlikely to be the only European heavyweight circling the 22-year-old this summer, with Atletico Madrid and Juventus also linked.

If a suitable transfer fee arrives on the table, it would likely be prioritised over a loan deal due to United's desire to generate funds.

The M16 giants need to be active this summer but must also stay in line with Financial Fair Play and the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Any transfer fee received for Greenwood would enter the books as pure profit, considering he is a homegrown player.
