Liverpool manager Arne Slot won't be getting any complaints from Gary Lineker if he can land one of the "magical" performers so far at Euro 2024. The Reds are being linked with a move for Germany's Jamal Musiala, who has helped inspire the host nation to two wins in their opening two games.

The 21-year-old forward struck on the opening night of the tournament against Scotland, and impressed with his all round play in the 5-1 win.

And he got the crucial opener in Tuesday's 2-0 win over Hungary, meaning he is the only player at the tournament with two goals to his name thus far.

And Anfield chiefs will have taken note of his form. The English-born player is out of contract with Bayern in the summer of 2026, and is yet to agree on a new contract despite being reportedly offered a new £150,000-a-week contract.

According to German publication Bild, Musiala's future is now the subject of debate at the Bundesliga club. Liverpool are one European giant expected to try and capitalise of the uncertainty as they seek a long term replacement for Mohamed Salah.

And Lineker left listeners in little doubt when he spoke about the former Chelsea player on the Rest is Football podcast, saying: "Musiala you know. I know we know he’s an incredible talent but boy oh boy he’s sharp. Magical."

Musiala grabbed 12 goals and eight assists in 38 games for Bayern last season, one of the few bright spots in a campaign that ended without silverware. But the Reds will almost certainly have to sell before making any move, given Bayern are likely to demand a huge fee.

Manchester City have also been linked, as have the likes of Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. Musiala however, represented England at four different age grade levels before pledging his international allegiance to Germany, and is expected to opt for the familiar surroundings of the UK if he does leave Bayern.

The current Premier League Profit and Sustainability rules have restricted clubs in England from splashing out lavishly for players though. And Musiala's value is only likely to increase if he continues to excel during Euro 2024.

And Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has unsurprisingly echoed Lineker's views. He told reporters after the Hungary win that his key man simply needed to forget the environment around him and play his natural game.

"He should just play like he’s on a small pitch anywhere in Germany or England, it doesn’t matter,” he said. “He should just play football with his friends. He shouldn’t think about the pressure, he’s just brilliant playing football.”
