Man Utd ‘talked with Lionel Messi’ and ‘lodged contract offer’ as PSG deal ticks down
Manchester United were linked with Lionel Messi two years ago and could move for the 35-year-old as his time with Paris Saint-Germain starts to draw to a close.
Lionel Messi is set to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer and is attracting interest from the likes of Al-Hilal and Inter Miami. However, with the veteran keen to stay in Europe, he could be poised for one last blockbuster move. And Manchester United can’t be entirely ruled out, having reportedly made approaches to land the forward when it became clear he’d be leaving Barcelona two years ago.
Prior to Messi’s move to PSG being confirmed, The Sun claimed his camp had actually ‘put the feelers out’ over a potential move to Manchester United.
And then, shortly after, it was claimed the Red Devils had launched a contract offer in the hope of securing the player’s signature.
This summer, United could be set for a takeover. And while Sir Jim Ratcliffe seems to be in pole position, Sheikh Jassim has made it clear he’s open to going down the Galactico route.
What a statement signing Messi would be.
Though his powers are starting to wane as age creeps in, he remains one of the best footballers on the planet.

The last time United faced Messi was in April 2019 after being drawn against Barcelona in the quarter-finals of European football’s top-tier club competition.
They managed to keep the PSG star quiet in the first leg, though did lose 1-0 after a goal from Luis Suarez.
Yet Messi was unstoppable in the reverse fixture at the Nou Camp, notching twice as Barcelona cruised to a 3-0 victory.
Meanwhile, PSG fans recently protested against Messi and urged him to leave as quickly as possible.
And Mohamed, coach of Celta de Vigo and current technical director of Club Universidad Nacional de Mexico, has slammed those who made their voices heard.

"It is a lack of respect for football that they are going to b****,” he said.
“These bitter people who never won anything are not going to win even if they buy the Eiffel Tower and put it in front of the goal.
“It is a total lack of respect. First to the person, to the family, to the children.
“And to film that and take it out publicly too. It's disrespectful. Outrageous.
“Besides, they don't even have the taste to b****, did you see? It looks like everything is organised and poorly organised.”
