Man Utd: Edinson Cavani transfer is a ‘win-win’ says expert
Manchester United are set to announce the signing of Edinson Cavani on a free transfer soon. And former Red Devils striker Diego Forlan has backed his compatriot to shine at Old Trafford. Cavani has been a free agent since leaving Paris Saint-Germain but, now, is poised to move to the Premier League.
Having spent the majority of the transfer window pursuing a deal for Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, they’ve now decided to take Cavani to Old Trafford.
They still want Sancho but Cavani will soon arrive to bolster Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attack, with the 33-year-old set to jostle with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood for a starting berth.
Given his age, and the fact the club will fork out £8million in agent fees, some are sceptical about a deal.
But United cult hero Diego Forlan feels he’ll shine at Old Trafford, telling The National: “I think Cavani is going to do well.
“Edinson will show his conduct and way of doing things, his professionalism, the way he works hard and trains.

“It will be his conduct that other players can watch and learn from.”
Forlan isn’t the only former United star to praise the imminent arrival of Cavani, with Wales boss Ryan Giggs also endorsing a move for the PSG icon.
"It goes without saying he's a world star,” said Giggs.
"My second game as Wales manager was against Uruguay. Cavani scored and I was really impressed with his work-rate and quality.
"It's all about how quickly he beds in. We've seen South Americans who haven't really come and done it like Falcao, Di Maria and Sanchez, but Cavani, with his work-rate, you expect him to make it.
“Where are you going to play him? When you look at the makeup of that midfield it’s really interesting going forward. They’ve got three numbers 10s really, Donny van de Beek, Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes.
“It was like, ‘Oh he’s available, let’s get him, instead of trying to strengthen your weakest areas.
“They’ve addressed the keeper, a centre-back is paramount. There is no forward thinking, ‘this is where we are, this where we will be in six months’.
“I heard Gary [Neville] talking to us six months ago, saying: ‘We’re not going down that route anymore of signing old players,’ what do they go and do? Go and bring the guy from China [Odion Ighalo] and now they’re talking about signing [Edinson] Cavani.
