Timo Werner: Pundit discusses potential transfer options
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard played a key role in convincing RB Leipzig star Timo Werner to swap the Bundesliga for the Premier League as he explained to the striker how he will be a "core part" of his Stamford Bridge project, according to reports.
Werner is having another fantastic season and so far he has scored 31 goals and has provided 12 assists in 40 appearances in all competitions.
The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with sealing a move to Liverpool this summer, however, the German international is now on the verge of signing for the Blues.
Chelsea have reportedly agreed to trigger the £54million (€60m) release clause in the striker's contract and have offered the player a five-year deal.
According to the Independent, Werner was sold by Lampard’s vision of rebuilding the club, which he will be a core part of.

It also claims Werner has been guaranteed minutes, which might come as a blow to Tammy Abraham, as the 22-year-old has scored 15 goals in 34 appearances this season.
Werner's agent, Karlheinz Forster, is also understood to have already held talks with RB Leipzig on Thursday to inform them of Chelsea's plan to activate the player's release clause.
As Chelsea's offer to Werner, transfer expert Nicolo Schira claims the striker has been offered a deal until 2025, with wages of £9m (€10m) a season plus bonuses.

"Timo Werner is getting closer to Chelsea," Schira tweeted.
"He will sign until 2025 with a wage of €10M a year + bonuses.
"Blues will pay his clause. Liverpool had offered the same salary to German striker in the last weeks, but asked a discount to Leipzig, that rejected."
Meanwhile, another transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano, claims Werner is ready to sign as long as Liverpool don't hijack the deal.
And he also claims that the Reds haven't opened official negotiations with RB Leipzig about a summer transfer and that talks have only taken place between Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and Werner.
