Man Utd: Odion Ighalo’s goals are ‘special’ insists pundit
Manchester United only signed Odion Ighalo on loan because of Marcus Rashford’s back injury in January, it has been claimed. The Nigeria international has been a big hit at Old Trafford so far, scoring four goals from eight games. But he may return to parent club Shanghai Shenhua after they slapped a £20million price tag on his head.
Manchester United saw Rashford suffer a serious back injury in January, one that has kept him off the pitch in the time since.
And the Daily Mail say Old Trafford sources claim it was that setback which prompted the club into going for Ighalo in the first place.
At the time, United were condemned for their decision to sign the Nigeria international from Shanghai Shemhua.
Many thought it was a sign of the club’s current stature that they’d turned to the 30-year-old having initially sought the signing of wonderkid Erling Haaland.
But Ighalo has been a good addition to United ever since his move.
The Nigeria international has scored four goals from eight games, as well as managing one assist so far.

However, while he’s impressed at United, his future at Old Trafford is up in the air going into the summer.
Shanghai want a fee of £20m to let the striker go, aware of the impact he’s had at United throughout his short spell at the club.
But United only want to extend his loan until the end of the season at the current time.
That’s also a problem, with Shanghai hoping their talisman will be available for the start of the Chinese Super League season in July.
And what happens with Ighalo and United, particularly when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has the likes of Timo Werner and Moussa Dembele under consideration behind the scenes, remains to be seen.
