While he’s certainly a contender for the job, Pochettino still appears the frontrunner to replace Solskjaer.
Journalist Duncan Castles has claimed the former Tottenham boss is confident he can convince the Glazers into naming him as Solskjaer’s replacement.
“He has been looking for another job,” Castles said on The Transfer Window podcast.
“The latest information I have is that he has a great interest in being Manchester United manager but the latest information that I have is that specifically he and his people are targeting the Manchester United management job and believe they can secure it, believe they can convince the Glazers.
“I think it’s the Glazers who are key here. This won't be a decision that will be fully made by Ed Woodward.

“Obviously Ed Woodward is involved in the process and my information is that Ed Woodward is keen and has been keen on Mauricio Pochettino and there have been conversations with his representatives and discussions have been put in play about the possibility of him becoming Manchester United manager.
“These are old discussions that date back before the time Jose Mourinho was appointed manager buy also newer discussions across the last year.
“So it seems that Woodward is a keen admirer of Pochettino and you can see why if they are forced to change Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, which is something they don’t want to do.”
United are next in action against Chelsea on Monday night (8pm).
The Red Devils have already beaten Frank Lampard’s side twice this season in the Premier League and EFL Cup respectively.
