Man Utd: Solskjaer 'reluctant to let players go' says expert
Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward must help manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer by giving him the signing he needs this month, says former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood. United are yet to make any new signings in the first two weeks of the January transfer window. However, they are reportedly close to finalising a deal for long-term target Bruno Fernandes.
Sherwood says United are in need of a midfielder who can help change Solskjaer’s style of play, allowing United to dominate games more rather than hitting teams on the counter-attack.
And the pundit believes the club must help the Norwegian in finding the right target.
“I think [Solskjaer] surprises me at times,” Sherwood told Premier League Productions.
“The double-header they had against Man City and Tottenham, when they took maximum points, was ‘Do you know what? He’s turned a corner here’.

“He’s left them three up front, all the pace, they’ve got pace throughout that whole side. I just think they’re missing [something].
“Hopefully he can get help on the recruitment and find that ingredient in the middle of the park.
“You need to be able to control a football match and not just play on the counter attack, certainly when you’re at home.
“It’s alright when you’re playing Norwich, [but] when you’re playing top teams at home you have to have you own identity when you’re Manchester United.

“You have to take the game to the opposition and I think sometimes he just lacks… [he] absorbs it, a little bit like Jose [Mourinho] did against Liverpool on Saturday.”
United are currently fifth in the Premier League table, five points behind Chelsea in fourth.
And Sherwood says some criticism of the Red Devils this season has gone too far.
“We’ve been very critical of them and I think we’ve been less critical of Tottenham over the period of this season - we’re absolutely wrong looking at [the table],” he added.
