Chelsea: Lampard appointment will ‘appease fans’ says Burley
That is the opinion of former Chelsea and Derby County midfielder Craig Burley.
Lampard is set to be named the new Blues boss this week, replacing Maurizio Sarri who has moved to Juventus.
The Stamford Bridge legend has only had one season in management to date, where Derby lost to Aston Villa in the Championship play-off final.
Burley believes the appointment of Lampard is largely aimed at appeasing the club’s supporters, with a two-window transfer ban restricting new signings.

Solskjaer replaced the sacked Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford and was unbeaten in his first 12 Premier League games in charge.
However, defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates sparked a poor end to the season and hopes for Champions League qualification disappeared.
Solskjaer had a lot more experience in management at the time than Lampard currently has.

However, Burley says both managers will be judged on results, despite their pasts with their respective clubs.
And he can see Chelsea fans turning on Lampard if things start heading south next season.
“This will work for work for a certain period in terms of knitting together and appeasing fans,” Burley told talkSPORT.
“But ultimately, same as Manchester United and Solskjaer and anybody who brings in a former player with little experience, it’s going to come down to the results.
