Man United: Woodward could STOP De Ligt deal says expert
Manchester United chief Woodward is currently the man in charge of transfers at Old Trafford, despite the Red Devils’ determination to hire a sporting director.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side require mass investment this summer after a nightmare campaign that saw them finish sixth in the Premier League table.
Manchester United have already been linked with 60 players this transfer window, from established names such as Antoine Griezmann and Mauro Icardi to unknown quantities such as Daniel James and Sean Longstaff.
However, the Independent say Woodward is struggling to complete some transfers this summer.
The Red Devils have struggled in the market ever since Sir Alex Ferguson left in 2013.
David Moyes found out first-hand, pursuing deals for Gareth Bale, Thiago Alcantara and Leighton Baines.
Woodward struggled that summer, though, and ended up over-paying for Marouane Fellaini instead.
Louis van Gaal had similar issues.
The Dutchman recently took aim at Woodward, saying: “At Manchester United, on the other hand, Ed Woodward was installed as CEO – somebody with zero understanding of football who was previously an investment banker.

“It cannot be a good thing when a club is run solely from a commercially-driven perspective.
“I thought always Manchester United can buy every player because they have a lot of power.
"Seemingly a few players were not reachable for Manchester United. I cannot understand but it was like that.”
Van Gaal wanted Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski.
But he often had to make do with other players instead throughout his time in charge.
