Celtic ‘lacked energy’ in Rangers defeat says Lennon
Celtic slipped to a 2-0 defeat in their penultimate Premiership fixture on Sunday as Old Firm rivals Rangers claimed bragging rights.
The defeat can be seen as a blip in an otherwise consistent season in which Celtic are heading toward another domestic treble, but Chris Sutton has waned fans that the club is not in as good as position as it might seem.
“This is a Celtic squad in regression,” Sutton told the Daily Record.
“They’ve managed to get the job done to get over the line in the league and set up a chance of another treble.
“But no-one should be deluded into thinking everything is rosy at Celtic.
“They have shown character to get over the line but they have been flat this season and the rot had long set in under Brendan Rodgers.
“The recruitment has been woeful for a couple of seasons, which is why Lee Congerton heading off to Leicester City really is a case of good riddance.”
Neil Lennon’s future at the club has been thrown into further doubt after their disappointing derby defeat, but Sutton reckons the loss won’t effect his chance of being handed a permanent role.

Rangers beat Celtic in a ‘MEANINGLESS game’ says Sutton
He added: ”Neil Lennon will be frustrated by Celtic’s display and wounded by the result.
“But losing to Rangers at Ibrox should not damage his chances of landing the manager’s job on a permanent basis.
“I can assure you this is no old pals’ act. Yesterday’s defeat was a dreadful display from start to finish and it will leave Lennon facing a tough time to win over the doubters.
"It would be harsh to judge him on this game though. his is not Lennon’s Celtic team.
