Celtic player ratings vs Rangers: Brown and Rogic awful with 3s but team-mate even worse
CELTIC suffered a humiliating defeat to Rangers in their penultimate Scottish Premiership match of the season, but which of Neil Lennon's men let the side down?
Celtic put in a miserable display as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat against Rangers at Ibrox.
The Hoops were on the back foot almost immediately when James Tavernier’s whipped free-kick found the bottom corner after just two minutes.
And Steven Gerrard’s side doubled the lead through Scott Airfield after the hour, with the midfielder tucking beyond Scott Bain after good work from Glen Kamara and Jermain Defoe.
Celtic failed to muster a sustained threat against their Old Firm rivals, managing just one shot on target all afternoon, but still sit six points clear at the top of the table.
Express Sport have rated how the Celtic players performed against Rangrs, but do you agree?
Celtic player ratings vs Rangers – Scottish Premiership
GK: Scott Bain – 5
Caught on his heels slightly by Tavernier’s clever free-kick but little chance with such a dangerous delivery.
Made good saves from Defoe and Arfield but couldn’t keep the midfielder at bay as Rangers doubled their lead.
RCB: Mikael Lustig – 3
Had a miserable opening half against Ryan Kent and picked up an injury, forcing him to be subbed at the break.
CB: Jozo Simunovic – 5
Saw a fair amount of the ball but struggled to link up with the midfield and was given a thorough workout but the movement of Defoe and Arfield.
LCB: Kristoffer Ajer – 4
Sent for a hot dog by Defoe’s dummy, encapsulating a torrid afternoon as he looked off the pace and vulnerable to the Rangers attack.
RM: Michael Johnston – 5
Barely offered a threat in attack but did his best to carry out his defensive duties and provide cover for the ragged Hoops rearguard.
CM: Scott Brown – 3
Miserable start to the match as he struggled to find a team-mate with his passes and didn’t get much better.
Lucky to escape bookings after fouls on Arfield and Kent but was also on the wrong end of some rough treatment from Jon Flanagan.
CM: Tomas Rogic – 3
Barely got involved and was put out of his misery after 70 minutes.
CM: Callum McGregor – 4
Usually the Hoops’ most consistent player but really struggled to dictate the play with his passing radar well off.
Gave the ball away on plenty of occasions, although he did improve as the match went on.
LM: Jonny Hayes – 5
One of Celtic’s more adventurous players, doing his best to carry the fight to the home side.
Lucky to avoid a booking for a cynical foul on Tavernier and was also guilty of some dreadful deliveries.
ST: Odsonne Edouard – 5
Couldn’t quite get his head on Tavernier’s cross and was frustrated at the other end as Celtic failed to provide any sort of service.
ST: Oliver Burke – 2
Truly dreadful touch, and was arguably the worst player on the pitch – which is no mean feat in such an underperforming side.
SUB: Jeremy Toljan (on for Lustig, 45 mins) – 5
Slotted into the defence with minimum of fuss, but won’t really want to be associated with such a poor team display.
SUB: Scott Sinclair (on for Johnston, 66 mins) – 4
Barely made an impact, with Goldson denying him wth a brilliant tackle on his only run of note.
SUB: Olivier Ntcham (on for Rogic, 70 mins) – 5
Didn’t do anything wrong.
