When Man Utd chief Ed Woodward may consider sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
MANCHESTER UNITED boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is already under pressure at Old Trafford, less than two months after Ed Woodward gave him the job on a permanent basis.
Man Utd: Woodward made 'huge error' with Solskjaer says Gray
Manchester United appointed Solskjaer as permanent manager in March. And, at the time, nobody was questioning Woodward’s decision.
The Red Devils had won 14 of their first 17 matches under the 46-year-old, including major scalps on the road against the likes of PSG, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham.
Manchester United had their mojo back. They were tighter at the back and stronger going forward, with Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford an Jesse Lingard all flourishing at the time.
However, that has all changed. Less than two months in, Solskjaer is already facing a fight to keep his job.
The 46-year-old has overseen his side’s torrid run of two wins from their last 12 matches.
And fans are beginning to despair, with Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Cardiff at Old Trafford particularly chastening.
United like to give their managers time to turn things around.
They held fire on axing David Moyes in 2014 until it became clear things could not go on. Their failure to make the top four was the final nail in his coffin.
Likewise, Louis van Gaal. The football was dire and boring but still, United gave him time.
