Man Utd: Burley reveals Woodward's 'worst' transfer decision
Manchester United boss Solskjaer will have Phelan as his assistant again next season after the Red Devils hero signed a three-year contract.
The club announced that Phelan would be staying on as No 2 on Friday, with the 56-year-old saying: “"Manchester United has been a huge part of my life since I joined as a player in 1989.
“And I am delighted to be able to continue that relationship in this key role.”
Phelan had previously been in talks with Woodward over becoming United’s first-ever technical director.

Other reports have suggested United have also talked with Nemanja Vidic, who spent eight-and-a-half successful years at Old Trafford.
Phelan, meanwhile, believes this summer will be a big one for all involved at the club.
“Yeah, well it’s an important time,” he said.
“We’ve looked at things, we’ve assessed things. We got off to an unbelievable start. The players responded magnificently, really, by going on that great run, and what really came out of that was the fact that they enjoyed that spell.
