Club captain Laurent Koscielny has only just returned from a long-term Achilles problem.
Shkodran Mustafi has also missed games due to injury and suspension and Rob Holding will miss the remainder of the campaign after injuring his anterior cruciate ligament.
He’s gone back to a back four again. He can’t make up his mind
Tony Adams on Arsenal boss Unai Emery
Right-back Hector Bellerin has not played since December 16 and left-back Nacho Monreal has been continuously hampered with muscular problems.
That has led to Emery switching to playing three central defenders, with midfielder Granit Xhaka and right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner often stepping into unfamiliar roles.
Adams was speaking ahead of Arsenal’s FA Cup third round clash at Blackpool on Saturday.
And he revealed his frustration at the lack of continuity at the back.

“The manager’s gone three at the back, four at the back,” he said on BT Sport.
“He’s never had a settled [defence], they’re not keeping clean sheets.
“I fancy Blackpool to score today. I do.
“Even though I’m saying they’re experienced guys, he’s gone back to a back four again. He can’t make up his mind.

“They have got a few injuries, Holding’s out.
“They need a settled back four, I don’t think he’s got it.”
The injury problems continued for Arsenal in the warm up at Bloomfield Road, with Koscielny, who was due to start the match, pulling out of the game due to a back problem.
Arsenal won the game 3-0 thanks to a brace from Joe Willock and one from Alex Iwobi.
