Chelsea: Steven Robson blasts Jorginho NOT a 'top class player'
The north Londoners were linked with moves for the Italy and Brazil internationals in the summer.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino didn’t end up signing either man, with Jorginho going to Chelsea and Fred joining Manchester United.
Neither man has shone for their respective new clubs, which hasn’t gone unnoticed by Murphy.
“I don't know who they could have signed last summer that would have helped them,” the former England international said of his old side in his Daily Mail column. "Jorginho at Chelsea is a good player but he wouldn't get in Tottenham's team and couldn't cope with Dele Alli in their individual battle last night.
"Manchester United's £50 million signing Fred wouldn't have strengthened Spurs."
Tottenham didn’t bring in any reinforcements in the summer, a decision which perplexed many.
Many Spurs fans were disappointed with the club’s failure to strengthen the squad and believed it would be detrimental to their titles hopes.
Murphy disagrees with that assessment and reckons the club wouldn’t have benefitted from bringing anyone in who wasn’t better than the players already at their disposal.

He added: "There was so much doom and gloom around Tottenham's lack of transfer activity but I didn't see why.
“If you are going to buy a top centre-forward, he has to be better than Harry Kane.
“If you are going to sign an understudy, he has to be better than Son who was brilliant against Chelsea.
“People think buying more players is the answer to everything.
