Host Dan Walker couldn’t resist commenting on the weatherman’s choice of attire as he delivered the first forecast of the week.
Just moments after he broke the wet weather news to BBC viewers, back in the studio the 40-year-old told his co-star Louise Minchin: “He’s got an autumnal tie on today, as well. Orange…”
However, Nick was unable to reply as the pair soon cut to the front pages in the latest instalment of the live morning show.
Meanwhile, he had earlier told those at home to “bear with” when it came to the stormy conditions in 55-year-old Carol Kirkwood’s absence.

This afternoon some of the leaves will start to dry out and we will too
“It’s on the damp side this morning,” Nick started. “We’ve got a lot of leaves that came down over the weekend with the stormy weather some of us saw.
“But, bear with it, because by this afternoon some of the leaves will start to dry out and we will too.”
He went on to say that most of the rain would be across Scotland where it would be “quite a chilly” start.

The west of the country will enjoy double figures as the rain sets in, but the the sun will come out later in the day everywhere but the south east.
“We’re all going to see some rain for a time, but it’s actually not too bad - a few heavy bursts in Scotland but that’s the exception.”
Nick told people to expect things to be “misty and murky” tomorrow, before the heavy rain arrives.
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays from 6am on BBC One.
