The 48-year-old, who plays human rights lawyer Emma Banville, said that audiences would be able to solve the case from the comfort of their sofas and even figure it out before her character.
Speaking to media including Express.co.uk, the Peaky Blinders actress teased: “There’s quite a lot of good red herrings in this. All the clues are in it and that’s what’s very clever is that if you watch it, you can work it out as a member of the audience even before Emma.”
So did Helen managed to get to the bottom of the investigation while reading the script? “I’m a very happy member of the audience and I didn’t guess at all actually. But I wasn’t interested in guessing,” she explained.
The opening episode of the ITV thriller – penned by Homeland writer Patrick Harbison - threw up more questions than answers as Emma took on the case of man falsely jailed for the murder of a teenager.
Emma found herself encountering obstacles as the family of the victim intervened. She was also being tracked by the intelligence services as they followed her every move.
However, the closing moments of the first instalment hinted at something much bigger and more sinister afoot when a call was put into Washington D.C. and that there was a far wider-reaching conspiracy than just a miscarriage of justice.

Reflecting on how she felt after reading the scripts and reaching the last page, Helen said she was “wasn’t shocked”.
She went on to say: “What’s interesting about Patrick’s writing is that the drama becomes about the chase rather than the result.
“She hunts and you feel that she’s most alive when she’s hunting and that’s what Emma’s about. When I read the script, I was more interested in her than the individual stories because where you could take this character because you could do anything.”
