Married man Mick (played by Danny Dyer) ended up kissing Whitney (Shona McGarty) after the horrific bus crash incident back in January.
The Queen Vic landlord left Albert Square shortly afterwards, returning this week to find Whitney in bed with newcomer Woody Woodward (Lee Ryan).
Meanwhile, Linda has been away for over a year caring for her sick mother as actress Kellie Bright has been on maternity leave.
EastEnders executive producer Sean O'Connor teased that when Linda returns, there will be a special "three-hander" episode featuring a showdown with her, Mick and Whitney.

Praising Whitney actress Shona's acting skills in an interview with Metro, Sean dished: “Wherever she is in a scene – if she is collecting glasses, or breaking her heart- the camera just loves her.
“She has some huge episodes to come - including a showdown with Mick and Linda in the pipeline which will be a Carter three-hander where all of the emotions of the past few months will come crashing into the heart of the Square."
He added: “It’s going to be fantastic.”

Sean, who replaced departing boss Dominic Treadwell-Collins in June 2016, also revealed why he made the controversial decision to bump off Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell (Samantha Womack and Rita Simons) on New Year's Day.
The 49-year-old argued that the characters, who first arrived in Walford in 2007, "were exhausted".
