Viewers took to Twitter in their droves to condemn the presenter's treatment of the guest - a head teacher from Leeds - who was discussing the negative impact the exams can have on young pupils.
The 51-year-old, who seemingly left co-star Susanna Reid feeling a little uncomfortable, was branded "arrogant and pompous" after the grilling.
Interrupting Maria, Piers told her: "Wait a minute, you can't tell me in that reading for a example that the suicide rates in Ireland or Finland are massively worse than this country… that's ridiculous!"
Susanna later stepped in: "Thanks Maria… it sounds like the children have a great preparation for their SATs there."
