Bafta glory for Strictly but Alesha is golden girl
IT’S been waltzing into viewers’ homes for more than a decade and winning over TV audiences in their millions.
Strictly may have won the award but Alesha wins with her dress
Now Strictly Come Dancing has picked up its first Bafta.
Presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman accepted the iconic statue during last night’s British Academy Television Awards.
But it was former Strictly winner and judge Alesha Dixon who stole the show in a stunning yellow gown.
The show beat competition from ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent, Adele at the BBC and Channel 4’s TFI Friday Anniversary Special in the Best Entertainment Programme category.
Tess said: “We are genuinely shocked. I thought Adele at the BBC would win. My daughter even said to me, ‘No offence mum but you’ve got no chance’. It honestly means the world to all of us.”
And Claudia joked: “I’m really regretting the three tequilas. We’re going out for five days after this.”
Strictly Come Dancing have finally bagged their first Bafta for Entertainment Show
The BBC’s Tudor series Wolf Hall won the Best Drama Series award, with director Peter Kosminsky using his speech to call for the future of the BBC to be protected.
I’m really regretting the three tequilas
The Government is preparing to publish a White Paper on its future this week. Kosminsky said: “It’s not their BBC, it’s your BBC. Our broadcasting is the envy of the world – we should stand up and fight for it.
“If we don’t we shall blink and it’s gone.”
Mark Rylance, who played Thomas Cromwell in the historical drama, won Best Actor. Other winners for the BBC were Poldark, EastEnders, The Great British Bake Off and Peter Kay’s Car Share.
