'Are you f**king kidding?' Mary Berry fans unimpressed with 'basic' pesto meal on TV show
MARY BERRY has kickstarted pestogate as fans criticise a seemingly "basic" recipe demonstrated on her own Foolproof Cooking programme this week.
Pestogate hit Mary Berry's Foolproof Cooking earlier this week
In the latest episode of the 80-year-old broadcaster's show, she was seen showing viewers how to make a meal involving pasta, pesto and bacon - leaving her viewers unimpressed.
While some labelled it "student food", others claimed the BBC had "too much money to spend".
Writing on Twitter, one quipped: "On BBC2, Mary Berry is making pasta with pesto and chopped up rashers of bacon. And then, we assume, heading straight down the student union."
"Mary Berry is on tv, boiling pasta and pouring shop bought pesto on it," another raged. "Are you f**king kidding me Mary?"

What next, how to make toast?
A third sarcastically wrote: "Mary Berry is on fire tonight! Tomato Soup, pasta, what next how to make toast??"
"Not very impressed with Mary Berry's new show! Shop bought pesto and an awful looking pasta," moaned someone else.
Taking aim at the programme's whole existence, another commenter said: "BBC have Mary Berry on £1,000,000 for various stuff but shop bought pasta is a programme? Too much cash to spend methinks."
She explained that it's a real time-saver
The episode had been focused around time-saving recipes, designed for "those days when you are simply run off your feet". A roasted cauliflower dish was also included.
Mary Berry's Foolproof Cooking continues next Monday at 8:30pm on BBC Two.
