Escape to the Country couple sob as dream home breaks major rule
BBC's Escape to the Country couple Maryan and Michael were left emotional after finding their dream property in Grantown-on-Spey.

A house-hunting couple featured on BBC's Escape to the Country were moved to tears upon discovering their ideal property during the programme. Whilst buyer Maryan became "emotional" viewing the impressive residence for the first time, her joyful tears nearly transformed into sorrowful ones when presenter Jules Hudson revealed it contravened certain programme guidelines.
Participants Maryan and Michael toured several properties within their £650,000 budget before finding their perfect match. The pair sought substantial land with sufficient space for bicycle storage and a workshop to support their mountain biking enterprise.
Maryan wanted a spectacular staircase, whilst the couple required a minimum of three bedrooms. Eventually, a property situated in Grantown-on-Spey brought Maryan to tears as she glimpsed the stunning staircase. She admitted: "Oh my goodness, I feel quite emotional, that's something else!"

The five-bedroom Edwardian detached residence showcased restored period characteristics whilst incorporating contemporary renovations. It even boasted an enormous fireplace with an integrated drinks cabinet.
The property's newer section contained an ultra-modern kitchen and dining space, whilst the upper-floor bedrooms also featured mantlepieces.

Maryan gushed: "When I walked through the front door I was taken aback by the splendour, the greatness of the hallway. This property immediately gave me that feeling of just being home, of being hugged, and just being really welcoming."
However, Jules had some disappointing news to share - the property didn't exactly meet the BBC programme's typical criteria. Jules explained that because it was situated in the centre of a town - albeit set back from the main road - they weren't technically "escaping to the country".
The property was on the market for £560,000 - well within the couple's budget. Michael quipped: "We can have a yacht as well as have the business, have the house - we're done!" They vowed to arrange a second viewing - despite the possible rule breach.
