Bringing author Michael Connelly’s novel series to life, Prime Video’s Bosch followed the investigations of Detective Harry Bosch for seven seasons before its cancellation in 2021.
This wasn’t the end of Bosch’s journey though as the franchise returned a year later for its spin-off Bosch: Legacy with Harry retiring from the force to become a private investigator.
Prime Video subscribers were then thrilled to see actor Titus Welliver reprise his role once more in the drama Ballard which is another of Connelly’s books.

The Bosch prequel will take fans back to 1991 Los Angeles with a 26-year-old Harry Bosch in the early days of his police career.
MGM+ has shared that the series will “explore a city on the edge, teeming with racial tension, gang violence, and a fractured LAPD.”
It is during a period of growing unrest that Bosch will find himself drawn to a high-profile heist and a “web of criminal corruption that will test his loyalty to the badge”.
Along with the prequel announcement, the streamer has confirmed that actor Cameron Monaghan is going to be taking over from Welliver as a young Harry Bosch.
Monaghan is famed for starring in the US version of Shameless as Ian Gallagher for 10 years.
Some of his other most notable parts have been in Click with Adam Sandler, Gotham, and, most recently, the sci-fi action film Tron: Ares.

Fans still have quite a while to wait though until the prequel airs as production is set to begin on Bosch: Start to Watch in Los Angeles in 2026.
Author Connelly expressed: “I’m deeply grateful to Michael Wright and the team at MGM+ for championing this next chapter in Bosch’s journey with such remarkable care and integrity.
“Being able to see how Harry Bosch became the man we have loved for 10 seasons is a gift to me and his many fans.
“I can’t wait to dig in with Cameron and the writers to explore this uncharted character territory.”
Bosch: Start to Watch will be available to watch on MGM+.
