Coronation Street’s Ken Barlow 'playing' Rowan as 'real plan' for cult leader 'revealed'

Coronation Street's Ken has appeared to be reeled in by sinister Rowan - but viewers reckon the soap legend is actually "laying a trap" for the conman.

Coronation Street: Rowan pushes Leanne to face her demons

Coronation Street fans reckon Ken Barlow is playing Rowan Cunliffe, and will be the one to bring him down.

Sinister Rowan (Emrhys Cooper) made his debut earlier this year, as the leader of the mysterious “self-help” group, The Institute. Rowan has managed to lure in Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) - who is oblivious to his true colours.

As a result, her loved ones, fiancé Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and Toyah Habeeb (Georgia Taylor) have all shared their concerns over Leanne especially Toyah who was recently diagnosed with germ-cell ovarian cancer.

What’s more, in recent weeks Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) has also shown an interest in the group - much to the horror of Nick and Toyah.

After attending a retreat last month, Amy told Leanne that she’s looking to invest some of the inheritance money she got from grandma Deirdre - leaving Leanne and Rowan delighted.

Rowan then sweet-talked Amy and persuaded her to put her £40,000 inheritance money towards the organisation.

This week, Amy asked grandfather Ken (William Roache) to see if he would release the funds left for her by her late grandmother Deirdre. Ken was hesitant at first - but later changed his tune, and met with Rowan, Leanne and Amy in the Rovers Return.

Still, under the influence of Rowan, Leanne told Ken all about The Institute and the profit that members and investors could make over the coming months.

She also showed him the business model - and after reading, he agreed to release Amy's funds. But viewers are certain that Ken “still has his suspicions” and could be playing Rowan, in what would be a huge twist.

Over on a Corrie Facebook fan page, fans shared their thoughts about Ken giving Amy the money for Rowan’s organisation.

One person wrote: “Ken maybe laying a trap! Surely he hasn’t been hoodwinked?” Someone else added: “I think Ken is very suspicious and will clock something ain't right last minute.”

A third chimed in and penned: “I think he’s playing them, he has always been the smartest one on the street!” Another agreed and said: “I think Ken has suspicions and is out to bring them down!”

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
