Emmerdale fans admit ‘I didn’t see that coming’ as John Sugden’s true identity 'unveiled'

Emmerdale's John Sugden has 'revealed' his true identity after he made a telling three-word remark.

Oliver Farnworth says 'there's a lot to come' on Emmerdale

The true identity of Emmerdale's John Sugden seems to have been unveiled following a significant three-word phrase.

The newcomer, portrayed by Oliver Farnworth, made a dramatic entrance last week, quickly becoming the talk of the village.

Posing as the long-lost son of Jack Sugden (played by Clive Hornby), John wasted no time in causing a stir among the locals.

Aaron Dingle, played by Danny Miller, found himself entangled with John, unaware that he was romancing the brother of his former spouse, Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley). The revelation left both men reeling.

Victoria Sugden, enacted by Isabel Hodgins, was equally taken aback by John's sudden appearance, having been oblivious to the existence of another brother, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Suspicion arose earlier this week when Victoria stumbled upon a tin of John's personal items. Inside, John clutched an Army tag inscribed with the name Aiden Moore and hesitated to let Victoria see it.

This discovery sent fans into overdrive, speculating about the mysterious Aiden Moore. Further investigation by eagle-eyed viewers linked the surname Moore to a historical character associated with John's supposed father, Jack Sugden.

However, in the episode aired on Tuesday (August 14), Emmerdale seemed to hint at John's real persona. When Victoria pressed him for a "family night" at her place, John's reluctance spoke volumes.

In a dramatic twist on the show, John seemingly debunked the theory that he is John Sugden by stating to a character: "We're not family." He then angrily declared: "I'm not Harry's uncle or your brother, I'm just someone who is passing through."

Speculation is rife among viewers that the man posing as John Sugden could actually be Aiden, assuming a false identity in an attempt to start afresh.

One viewer speculated: "John Sugden died in action. Aidan Moore is him and the reason John was killed in action but has now taken his identity. You never know in soap land." (sic)

Another fan suggested: "l think he is not John Sugden and l think he must be Aiden Moore." A third pondered: "I don't think he is Vic's brother, he is pretending to be him."

While another exclaimed: "If that's true then I really didn't see it coming." Yet another fan posited: "It's not John, he's stolen his identity when he was in the army with him." (sic)

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm.
