Celebrity Race Across The World is back with a new roster of star participants for its eagerly anticipated second season, including BBC Radio 2's very own Scott Mills.

With the challenge set to navigate from the top of Brazil down to the depths of Chile, Scott, alongside his new spouse Sam Vaughan, will be among the personalities featured in this upcoming series.

Audiences can't help but delve into radio legend Scott Mills' archives, particularly those moments that sparked uproar, as they await the kick-off of this thrilling adventure show.

Scott Mills' controversial moments

A prominent controversy surrounding Mills unfolded when his stint on BBC Radio 1 became the subject of a BBC probe after listeners raised concerns about sexist and insulting quips made during a 2017 Comic Relief segment.

However, Ofcom decided in favour of the show, issuing a statement that said: "We investigated a series of jokes made in this programme broadcast as part of Comic Relief."

They continued: "While we acknowledge that some of the jokes had the potential to offend, we found they were unlikely to have exceeded most listeners' expectations."

Another moment that saw Scott's show steal the headlines was during an interview with singer Katy Perry.

He thought it would be amusing to stage a prank using a Russell Brand doppelganger with bewildering consequences.

"I thought it would be funny to hire a Russell lookalike," Scott admitted.

He elaborated: "I found a bloke who, when he turned up, really looked like Russell and could do the voice. So we sent fake Russell into the studio - and Katy absolutely freaked out and ran.

"We didn't know they were having relationship troubles so it was a bit misjudged. But I remember hearing her saying, 'I'm not going back out there', multiple times.

"I pleaded with her to come back. She's wicked and did, but she said: 'You need to play my records for the rest of your life on the radio to makeup for it.'

"It was my most awkward moment on Radio 1," he admitted.

Scott also landed in hot water last year with BBC Radio 2 listeners bombarding him with complaints.

New husband

He had prompted his audience to beep their car horns to witness if they'd get any reaction, an act condemned by some as a "dangerous" driving antic.

The Radio 1 star tied the knot earlier this year with 35-year-old Sam Vaughan, an audio producer and branded content freelancer, after meeting at a Welsh radio event in 2017.

Their nuptials took centre stage in a scenic Barcelona villa, attended by recognisable names like Rylan Clark, Jordan North and Calvin Harris, alongside a performance from songstress Pixie Lott.

Scott's next adventure is set to be Celebrity Race Across The World with his beloved husband but will this smitten pair outpace their competitors?

Celebrity Race Across The World continues on Wednesdays at 9pm on BBC One.
