James Hooton and Sam Hall, who play father and son Sam and Samson Dingle in Emmerdale, appeared on Wednesday's Loose Women to discuss their latest storyline.

Loose Women: Elton John tribute act serenades the panel

Emmerdale actor James Hooton, who portrays Sam Dingle, left Loose Women's panel member Coleen Nolan surprised on Wednesday with his 'real voice'. The popular soap star from the ITV show attended the talk show alongside his on-screen son, Sam Hall who plays Samson Dingle.

Their initial discussion about their current story arc quickly veered into how much the actor differs off-screen compared to his character, Sam Dingle whom he has been portraying since 1995. Panelist Coleen revealed: "It's funny because the first time you came on the show [Loose Women] as you're such an iconic character in Emmerdale, and then the first time you came on the show, you spoke like that and I was like: 'Oh, he's not really him!'"

Her remark drew a quick response from James who said: "I'd met you before the show anyway, you knew what I spoke like!" Coleen claimed she hadn't really known when they had exchanged their brief greetings.

The Loose Women co-host praised James for crafting such a charismatic character. Recounting his journey of nearly three decades with the series, James confessed his affection for playing a Dingle and the incredible experiences encountered during his tenure on the show, sharing also his joy over the never-ending drama.

However, it wasn't just Colleen who was stunned by James' real-life accent. Viewers tuning in via Twitter expressed surprise at his polished pronunciation with one exclaiming: "Funny seeing Sam out of character #LooseWomen! ", while another tweeted: "Damn - Sam's posh in real life #loosewomen."

In a recent interview, James' fellow actor Sam was succinct when questioned about his future on the soap. This follows reports from earlier in the year suggesting that 20-year-old Sam had been let go from the popular ITV series after a 15-year stint, reports the Mirror.

Although no official exit has been announced, Sam, who has kept mum about his ongoing storylines, assured fans in May that his character would not meet a fatal end.

On Wednesday's episode of Loose Women, the spotlight was on actors Sam and James as they faced questions about their careers in the soap.

When guest panelist Mariella Frostrup probed Sam with, "Do you reckon you've got another 15 years in you Sam?" he responded with a concise "I hope so!" In a similar vein, James, who has portrayed Sam Dingle for nearly three decades, was asked the same question and jovially responded: "I'll try my best, as long as they'll have me, I'll stay there!"
