BBC News: ‘Don’t talk!’ Naga Munchetty silences Charlie Stayt over interruption
BBC BREAKFAST host Naga Munchetty was reluctant to let her co-presenter Charlie Stayt speak over one segment today as she didn’t think an explanation of some news footage was necessary.
BBC Breakfast: Adorable seal sings nursery rhyme
Naga and Charlie hosted today’s instalment of BBC Breakfast where the moment unfolded.
It came as the pair reported on an item about seals learning to sing.
“One other story for you now and seals, believe it or not, have been taught to sing,” Charlie began.
The programme then played clips of seals being played an electronic version of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star before the creatures began to mimic the noise.
Let’s have no explanation whatsoever
“Sorry, I think…” Charlie began to say before being cut off by Naga.
“Don’t talk, don’t talk this is brilliant!” she exclaimed.
Charlie replied: “I think we need to explain a little bit.”
“No,” Naga asserted. “It’s all we need to see this Friday morning.”
“I’ll tell you what, let’s have no explanation whatsoever. That’s it, Mike,” Charlie said to sports correspondent Mike Bushell.
Naga then took to upon herself to explain what was going on in the clip.
“So apparently, sorry Charlie, it’s part of a study at the University of St Andrews, teaching them new sounds and songs,” she shared.
“Not only Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, it gets better. There’s the Star Wars theme tune as well.”
She continued: “There’s a point to it apparently, that part of this study gets some research to studying speech disorders.
“Don’t ask me how the link is going to be made, that is the joy of Friday morning.”
Mike declared: “Absolutely, I’ve always thought seals were talented but that’s taking it to another level.
“They need to do the whole album from Seal, you know the singer that was round in the early 90s.”
“Maybe a little optimistic at this stage,” Charlie chimed in to add.
Yesterday’s instalment saw viewers distracted from the programme as weather reporter Carol Kirkwood made multiple wardrobe changes.
The scotswoman was reporting on the weather at Royal Ascot where she donned several outfits.
Viewers were quick to take to Twitter to comment on Carol’s costume changes, with many complimenting her style as she offered inspiration to those heading to the races.
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
