Riverdale season 3 spoilers: Jughead Jones was almost played by THIS Sabrina star
RIVERDALE returns this week after some time away from the screen - however one of the show’s Netflix alums has now spoken out about a huge Jughead Jones casting change-up that almost happened.

Riverdale is renowned for making narrative choices that are often seen as a little strange by viewers.
And one of the main characters to drive these peculiar story beats is Jughead Jones (played by Cole Sprouse).
Jughead narrates the show each episode, and is a key member in most - if not all - of the stories that arrive on the show.
And fans could not imagine anyone but Sprouse taking on the iconic role - but he almost lost out on the Southside Serpents’ leader to a Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star.
Chance Perdomo plays the eccentric role of Ambrose Spellman in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and maintains a similarly pivotal role in the show.
Speaking to Vulture, Perdomo recently revealed he was being considered for the role of Jughead in the early stages of production.
And he even inspired Riverdale and Sabrina showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa towards many of Ambrose’s idiosyncrasies.
He told the publication: “That is correct. Crazy, huh?
“Apparently it was super, super close. And then [Roberto] was like: ‘I’m going to keep this kid in mind.’
“And he did, unbeknownst to me, even in the audition process when I was on the Warner lot in front of three sets of execs. He mentioned he remembered me from that audition, but I didn’t know that he’d written this character for me! So it’s mad, it’s mad.”
Obviously, the role of Jughead eventually went to Sprouse, but Perdomo revealed a little about his audition.
Apparently it was super, super close
He revealed: “It was the initial narration when Riverdale opens up in the pilot.
“It’s a moody, film noir narration on the kind of town Riverdale is and the people in it.
“When I watched the pilot, I was like, ‘Ah, I kind of know this!’”
Unfortunately for Perdomo he never had the chance to dive into the town of Riverdale - but has since been staying next door in Greendale.
Fans of the show are convinced the two shows will soon crossover after another hint was spotted in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Part 2.
During one of the various demon attacks in Greendale Sabrina Spellman (Kiernan Shipka) is targeted by a trio of evildoers.
As they attack, one of them yells: “The half-witch must not ascend.”
It has since been pointed out the term “ascend” has been used a lot in season three of Riverdale when talking about the Gargoyle King and the fictional game Gryphons & Gargoyles.
And speaking out on Twitter, one user wrote: “I’m getting little Riverdale vibes from the second part of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. That is not a good thing!”
Another added: “I’m just sitting here wondering when Riverdale and the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina are going to come together and make a spin off.”
Riverdale season 3 returns with episode 18 on Wednesday 17 April on The CW, and 9am the next day on Netflix.
