Tony Ealey, creative director of film and television at LMA spoke to Express.co.uk about his predictions for this year.
Ealey has been in the industry for more than 20 years, having worked on such iconic films as Disney’s Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Steven Spielberg’s We’re Back – A Dinosaur Story.
He also lent his expertise to a string of television series, such as the BBC’s Chronicles of Narnia, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Tales of Peter Rabbit.
He said: “The last 12 months have been a real golden year for British television, in my opinion.
“Killing Eve cannot – and I’m confident it will not – be overlooked. The combination of comedy and tragedy makes for great viewing for modern sophisticated audiences – it was an honest show that didn’t wag a feminist finger at viewers, but still alluded to the struggles women can face in a male-dominated world.
“Of course, Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh deserve recognition from their peers for gripping performances, but the writing should definitely be acknowledged for keeping us on the edge of our sofas until the very last scene.”
Ealey also praised BBC’s Bodyguard which captured the attention of the nation when was released last August.
“I also thought Jed Mercurio's Bodyguard, was pioneering in having the PTSD-suffering army vet, Richard Madden, protecting the home secretary, especially when she, Keeley Hawes' politics are despicable to him,” he said.
“At the other end of the spectrum, This Country continues to get even funnier – who would have thought that a documentary about residents of a village in the West Country could be so compelling?
“Charlie and Daisy Cooper, the writers and actors most definitely get my vote for Best Comedy.”
