ITV Good Morning Britain: 'Split them up' Piers Morgan takes huge swipe at Ant and Dec
GOOD MORNING BRITAIN saw Piers Morgan hitting out at the much-loved Geordie duo Ant and Dec this morning as he spoke about their recent NTA nomination.
GMB: It will be 'utterly ridiculous' if Ant wins NTA says Piers
Good Morning Britain was awash with discussion about the upcoming National Television Awards this morning.
And while its presenters, Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid, and the show itself are up for their own awards Piers wasn’t happy about someone else being nominated.
Geordie personality duo Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly are up for the annual “best TV presenter” award - which they have won 16 years straight.
But Piers was simply not happy about Ant being included in the nomination after he stepped down from his TV duties this year.
Speaking out on Good Morning Britain today he raged: “How did you get a nom? I'm sorry but how did that happen?
“Dec, sure he's put a shift in. Us, hundreds of days at the coal face.
"Imagine if Ant McPartlin actually wins tonight and we don’t - walking the dog for a year, television personality of the year.”
Piers went on to suggest he has been hard at work for the year, adding: “Me, coal face every morning hours on end, week after week - nothing.
“Imagine if you think it’s a reasonable way to conduct the award seasons business, seriously.”
He then said if the pair win, next year he would “take the day off every day and walk his dog”.
“I don't even have a dog. I intend to do that if I can find a dog,” he said.
Piers went on to suggest separating the duo, adding: “Or just Dec and split them up. That would be funny.
"Everyone would be like 'we’re going to vote for the one that did all the work.’”
Ant stepped down from his TV commitments early last year after a drink driving conviction.
It occurred during the latest season of Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.
The event caused Dec to take on the final two shows of the season alone, with much support from his friends and family.
Piers wasn’t happy much in this morning’s edition of the breakfast show, as showbiz reporter Richard Arnold revealed his NTA seat’s photo.
Piers jokingly said the image looked like him as a “serial killer”.
He continued: “That’s what ITV does to me right. We finally get up for a big award… Schofield; happy, smily, nice, voteable.
“Me; serial killer. Opened mouthed, horror struck, serial killer. This is what ITV do to us.”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
