Great British Bake Off 2018: Why is Prue Leith not on Great British Bake Off 2018?
GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF aired its fourth episode tonight but viewers noticed that Prue Leith was notably absent from part of the episode.
GBBO: Sandi reveals Prue is 'under the weather'
Prue makes up one half of the Great British Bake Off judging duo with Paul Hollywood
Although she was on hand to judge the first part of the instalment tonight, she wasn’t there toward the end.
Prue missed the second day of filming during the fifth week which explains her absence.
Paul explained: “She’s a bit under the weather today so I’ll be flying solo.”
Meanwhile, Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig were on hand to joke about the void left by Prue.
In a skit segment on the programme, Noel walked up to Sandi dressed as Prue and joked he would step into her role.
However, Paul was left alone to judge the bakers in the final challenge.
Prue’s absence meant Paul was responsible for the two contestants who would be booted of this week.
Last week, no one left the tent due to Terry’s illness and so two faced the chop tonight.
It had been a difficult show for some as they tackled Spice Week.
Dan hit a major stumbling block after he was forced to throw one of his creations away.
He discovered his cake in the first challenge had curdled before he put it in the oven.
“I’m going to have to start again, I don’t really have any choice,” he sighed.
“I’m screwed, that’s half an hour gone and I’m back to zero.”
When it came down to the judges’ verdict, Dan received criticism from both Paul and Prue.
Bake Off goes 'back to the future' to address Prue Leith tweet
“Obviously there’s an issue with the lean,” Paul observed of the second attempt. “The sponge is probably still too warm.”
While Prue added: “It’s such a pity because it being too warm when you were putting it together has effected everything.”
In the end, it was Kim-Joy who received the honour of being this week’s Star Baker.
Unfortunately, Karen and Terry left the tent for good in an emotional exit.
Great British Bake Off airs Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 4.
