The partner of the farmer whose cow was hit by a police car last week has said that the officer who rammed her should be fired.

Last week, footage emerged and went viral of a police officer ramming a 10-month-old heifer, on a residential street in Staines. The animal, known as Beau Lucy, suffered no broken bones in the shocking incident but could die of shock as they recover.

Following the incident Kate, the partner of the farmer who owned Beau Lucy, has called for the officer driving the car at the time to be sacked.

Home Secretary James Cleverly has also called for a “full, urgent explanation” as to what happened and why.

Speaking to Sky News, Kate said: “Honestly, when I saw the video, I thought he should lose his job. I just thought it was disgusting, I couldn’t believe it.”

She added: “I don’t know if it was his decision to drive at the animal or whether he was instructed to, but the police, when they got out of the car looked pretty agitated themselves.” In response to the growing outrage at the incident, Surrey Police announced that the officer who was driving the car has been removed from duty.

In a statement, Deputy Chief Constable Nev Kemp said: “I fully appreciate the distress our handling of this incident has caused and will ensure that it is thoroughly and diligently investigated.

“In addition to an internal referral to our Professional Standards Department, we have also referred the matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for independent consideration. At this time, the officer who was driving the police car has been removed from frontline duties pending the outcome of these investigations.”
