Visiting a beautiful Welsh seaside town that’s lined with Victorian architecture is like taking a step back in time.

At least that’s the view of residents, visitors and now a national newspaper that claims the coastal resort of Llandudno is like something straight out of the history books.

Llandudno in north Wales overlooks the Irish Sea and is home to just under 20,000 people. And perhaps unusually, the seafront is the centre of the town.

A two-mile stretch of Victorian terraces line the coast and they’re interspersed with even grander hotels. Fans of the resort are also attracted by its array of shops, restaurants and bars.

There are also museums to explore, stunning churches to take in and to top it all off a traditional pier and pub that overlooks the beach.

The Great Orme Tramway is another popular attraction, whisking passengers to the tall limestone headland of the same name. There is also a cable car.

"Living here is like going back 50 years," Ray, 80, told WalesOnline.

Ray retired to this seaside town almost three decades ago.

He added: "You can go out for walks after dark. There are no rough gangs going around swearing and fighting."

His view is in stark contrast to what many say about UK seaside resorts, some of which are suffering an economic downturn and plagued with antisocial behaviour and crime.

Many have waxed lyrical about the little town on the travel review site Tripadvisor - with one saying they simply “fell in love” with it.

They said: “Visited Llandudno on a brisk windy day and fell in love with the town. We thought it was beautiful and the walk along the promenade was gorgeous. Cold, but gorgeous!”

Another talked of the “magnificent” sea views and added that “a walk along the pier is well worth the time”.

A long-time visitor expressed their joy at spending time in lovely Llandudno.

They said: “I’ve been visiting Llandudno all my life first as a child with my parents 60 years ago and since with my children and grandchildren.”

They added: “I now appreciate the beauty of the surrounding scenery, the wealth of nice eateries and the continuing magic of all Llandudno has offered my family and me for 60 years, thank you.”
