Woman dies after being pulled out of the sea in massive emergency in Wales

The woman, 57, was pulled from the sea off the coast of Wales and was taken to hospital where she died.

A woman has died after a huge search and rescue operation off the coast of north Wales. North Wales Police, the Welsh Ambulance Service, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and HM Coastguard teams took part in the response.

A rescue helicopter also took part in the operation which was launched at about 3am on Thursday (May 30) after reports a woman was in the water.

The woman, 57, was found in the sea shortly afterwards and flown to Ysbyty Gwynedd Hospital where she died, North Wales Live reports.

Det Insp Kris Williams from North Wales Police said: "Our thoughts remain with the woman’s family at this time, who we continue to support.

"The circumstances of the death are not being treated as suspicious and the coroner has been informed."

A North Wales Police spokesperson confirmed the woman found in the sea off Llandudno and died. They added: "Multi-agency searches were launched involving police, NPAS, HM Coastguard, RNLI shortly before 3am, and the woman was found in the water a short time afterwards."

A HM Coastguard spokesperson said the service was called by North Wales Police to Llandudno at around 3am on Thursday. Llandudno and Rhyl coastguard rescue teams helped, alongside HM Coastguard's search and rescue helicopter, Llandudno RNLI inshore lifeboat and all weather lifeboat.

A RNLI spokesperson said Llandudno RNLI’s all-weather and inshore lifeboats were tasked by HM Coastguard at about 4am to the multi-agency incident near Llandudno Pier.
